Offset

The term 'Offset ' as it applies to the area of agriculture can be defined as ' Liquidating a purchase of futures contracts through the sale of an equal number of contracts of the same delivery month, or liquidating a short sale of futures through the purchase of an equal number of contracts of the same delivery month. In other words, selling if one has bought, or buying if one has sold, a futures or option contract'.

The term 'Offset ' as it applies to the area of Medicare in the United States can be defined as ' The recovery by Medicare of a non-Medicare debt by reducing present or future Medicare payments and applying the amount withheld to the indebtedness. '.
